CROSSTOWN SHUTOUT: Jaguars take care of business, hand South Laurel 43-0 loss

Jason Chappell’s North Laurel Jaguars did exactly what they were expected to do on Thursday — take care of business while winning with ease.

The Jaguars (4-1 overall, 1-0 against district opponents) won their fourth in a row over crosstown rival South Laurel (0-6, 0-1) with a 43-0 decision.

North Laurel is 12-1 against the Cardinals the past 13 years while shutting them out for only the second time during the two teams’ 33 meetings.

Chappell’s squad quickly showed why they were heavy favorites entering the contest by establishing its dominance early.

Tucker Warren’s four-yard touchdown run capped off the Jaguars’ opening drive as North Laurel took an 8-0 lead with 9:24 remaining in the first quarter.

Warren added a three-yard touchdown run three minutes later while increasing his team’s advantage to 15-0.

Ethan Gregory added the Jaguars’ third rushing touchdown of the game 42 seconds into the second quarter, breaking free for a three-yard touchdown run as North Laurel’s advantage grew to 22-0.

Treyshawn Holmes-Evans scored on a three-yard run with 44 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Jaguars a commanding 29-0 lead.

Warren’s four yard touchdown pass to Hunter Morgan from four-yards out out the running clock into play at the 8:10 mark of the third quarter as North Laurel’s lead grew to 36-0.

Austin Johnson found paydirt with 2:12 remaining in the third quarter, increasing the Jaguars’ edge to 43-0.

North Laurel will be in action next Friday with a key home game against Southwestern while South Laurel will host Pulaski County.
