The wheels haven’t fell off but David Broyles’ North Laurel Jaguars desperately need a win going into Tuesday’s matchup against 49th District rival Corbin.
The Jaguars dropped a 1-0 decision to Somerset on Monday which ran North Laurel’s losing skid to three games and their winless streak to five matches. Broyles’ squad hasn’t won a match since beating South Laurel, 3-0, on Sept. 8.
They had chances against the Briar Jumpers to end the skid and despite the loss, a win over the Redhounds Tuesday would secure the 49th District’s No. 1 seed for North Laurel.
“We came out really strong tonight (against Somerset) and controlled the game in the first half,” Broyles said. “We had several good scoring opportunities, but just wasn’t able to find the back of the net. We played well for the whole game, but they were able to find the back of the net with five minutes to go when the ball took an awkward bounce and got away from our keeper.
“Tomorrow is a big game for us, but as long as we play well, I know we have an opportunity to do something that North hasn’t been able to do for several years,” he added. “We just have to play with confidence and be smart with the ball to give ourselves a chance.”
