Pineville coach Samantha North, and assistant coach Jon North coached against their alma mater on Monday when the Lady Mountain Lions faced-off against Red Bird.
The homecoming turned out to be a victorious visit as Pineville won its third match in a row by defeating the Lady Cardinals, 25-18, 26-24, and 25-19.
“Playing at Red Bird is always an emotional game. Not only is it a homecoming for Jon and me, but I’m coaching against two of my wonderful former players,” Pineville coach Samantha North said. “I was on the very first volleyball team at Red Bird and watching them carry on that legacy is awesome. We prepped for the game knowing that they were incredibly consistent and had stolen sets from some very good teams.
“I’m so proud of my team for not only coming away with a win, but a sweep the night before a huge district match up,” she added. “They battled every set and overcame deficits of five and six points several times, something we couldn’t do earlier in the season. They continue to fight and improve and we are one step closer to being the best versions of ourselves.”
The win improved Pineville to 9-11 while Red Bird fell to 6-10. The Lady Mountain Lions will be back in action Tuesday against 51st District foes Knox Central.
