CROSSTOWN THRILLER: South Laurel survives scare, holds off North Laurel with a 2-1 win 

Lora Rison’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals kept their repeat chances alive on Monday by slipping past North Laurel with a 2-1 win during semifinal action of the 49th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament.

The Lady Cardinals (10-6) fell behind early before scoring two unanswered goals to capture their fifth straight win against Jessica Miller’s squad.

The Lady Jaguars (5-6-1) took a 1-0 lead at the five-minute mark as Makayla Mastin scored her 17th goal of the season.

South Laurel’s Belle Dotson tied the match at one apiece during the 35th minute before Josie Gill’s goal during the 62nd minute ended up giving the Lady Cardinals the win.

Rison’s squad will now play Corbin Thursday in the 49th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament championship game. South Laurel is currently 0-1 against the Lady Redhounds this season.
