MAKING HISTORY: Lady Black Bears soccer captures first-ever 50th District title

The Harlan County Lady Black Bears captured the 50th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament championship after holding off Knox Central in a PK Shootout.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie during regulation play and two overtime periods before the Lady Black Bears (6-10 overall, 4-1 vs. district opponents) pulled off the victory in the PK Shootout, winning the match, 2-1.

Harlan County had reached the 50th District finals five times before capturing its first-ever district title after defeating the Lady Panthers. 

Abigail Gaw scored Harlan County’s lone goal in the match while Livia Gilbert was credited with the assist.
