The duo of Kade Elam and Carter Stewart turned out to be too much for Knox Central to handle during Friday’s district clash at Campbell Field.
Elam connected with Stewart with touchdown passes of 40, 52, 80, and 28 yards as Corbin cruised to an easy, 50-0, win over the Panthers.
The win marked the Redhounds’ ninth in a row over Knox Central as Corbin remained unbeaten at 7-0 and 1-0 against district opponents.
The Panthers fell to 4-3 overall, and are now 0-1 in district play.
The Redhound defense entered the game, focusing on Knox Central’s Steven Partin, who was averaging a combined total of almost five touchdowns a game through the air and on the ground.
Corbin held him scoreless which allowed the Redhound offense to take control of the contest early in the first quarter.
Elam picked up where he left off in last week’s win over Simon Kenton by keeping a hot hand. His 40-yard touchdown pass to Carter Stewart gave the Redhounds a 7-0 advantage right out of the gate with 5:50 left in the first quarter.
The duo hooked up again for another touchdown with 8:02 remaining in the first half as Elam’s 52-yard pass hit Stewart in stride, giving Corbin a 14-0 advantage.
Elam and Stewart continued to torch Knox Central on the Redhounds’ ensuing drive. This time around, Elam hit Stewart for an 80-yard touchdown strike, stunning the Panthers even more as Corbin’s cushion grew to 21-0 with 2:21 left in the second quarter.
The Redhounds continued to dominate once the second half began.
Cameron Combs scored on a 48-yard touchdown run and a minute later Joe Wes Lester returned a fumble recovery 33 yards to increase Corbin’s lead to 36-0 with 9:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Elam and Stewart connected for their fourth touchdown of the game at the 2:31 mark of the third quarter as Elam’s 28-yard touchdown pass to his teammate, increased the Redhounds’ lead to 43-0.
Elam’s fifth touchdown pass of the game, a 22-yarder to Mark Warren, pushed Corbin’s advantage to 50-0 with 10:08 left in regulation.
