Whitley County suffered its second district loss of the season, and saw its record fall to 1-6 after dropping a 40-7 decision to Southwestern on Friday.
The Colonels will try to get back on track with short week ahead. They’ll travel to play North Laurel Thursday in a another district matchup.
Southwestern only needed 52 seconds to jump out and take a 7-0 lead thanks to a 31-yard rushing touchdown by Christian Walden.
Maison Hibbard pushed his team’s lead to 14-0 after reaching the end zone from five yards out with 5:18 remaining in the first quarter.
Whitley County’s defense continued to bend but not break allowing the Colonels to remain close to the Warriors.
Shane Parker’s 61-yard touchdown run cut Southwestern’s lead to 14-6 with 1:41 left in the first half.
Tanner Wright’s seven-yard touchdown run with 4:19 remaining in the third quarter gave the Warriors a 21-6 lead.
Southwestern’s lead grew to 27-6 right before the end of the third quarter as Hibbard threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Hewitt.
The Warriors added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to wrap-up a 40-6 win.
