STILL PERFECT: Pineville improves to 7-0 with huge district game on the horizon

Allen Harris’ Pineville Mountain Lions are only one of two teams in the 13th Region that remain undefeated after rolling past Lynn Camp, 45-6, in Friday’s district matchup.
The Mountain Lions are now 7-0 and 1-0 in district play, and will now switch focus to next week’s home district matchup against Williamsburg.
Pineville has lost 14 consecutive games to the Yellow Jackets with its last win against Williamsburg coming back on Oct. 29, 2010.
A win over the Yellow Jackets would move the Mountain Lions one step closer to a district title.
Pineville got off to a slow start on Friday, and fell behind with 3:28 left in the first quarter after Lynn Camp’s Peyton Wilson scored on a 38-yard run.
The Mountain Lions responded by closing out the first half with 32 unanswered points.
Landon King’s one-yard rushing touchdown gave Pineville an 8-6 lead with 19 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
He followed with a 38-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and his interception set up Sawyer Thompson’s one-yard touchdown run that put the Mountain Lions ahead 24-6 with 5:38 remaining in the first half.
Thompson added a four-yard rushing touchdown right before halftime to give Pineville a 32-6 advantage.
Thompson added another rushing touchdown in the third quarter, a 35-yarder, as the Mountain Lions took a 38-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
King added another rushing touchdown late in the co test to secure Pineville’s 39-point victory.
