ON TO THE FINALS: Grace Gibson scores seven goals, setting program’s season record with 50 goals during Corbin’s 13-0 blowout win over Knox Central

Corbin fans had a lot to celebrate during Monday’s 13-0 win over Knox Central.
The Lady Redhounds (15-4-1) advanced to Wednesday’s 13th Region Girls’ Tournament championship game against South Laurel while Grace Gibson now holds the program record with 50 goals in a season (38th all-time in the state), surpassing former Corbin star Amerah Dixon’s total of 47 in 2012 after finding the back of the net seven times (29th all-time in the state) against the Lady Panthers.
Olivia Jones added four goals, and now has 35 for the season while Emely Colchado also scored a goal. Corbin’s other goal came via an own goal by Knox Central.
All 13 goals were scored in the first half as as Gibson’s seventh goal with 4:14 left sealed the win.

“I’m just super proud of my team,” Corbin coach Hannah Goins said. “Excited to be advancing to the region championship again. This team deserves it, they’ve worked very hard.

“Grace and Olivia have both broken school records this season,” she added. “Olivia broke the single season assist record and Grace has broken the single season goals record. These ladies have worked very hard to achieve their goals and as their coach I’m very proud of their accomplishments.

“Our team as a whole has accomplished a lot so far this season,” Goins continued. “All of our players work hard, are selfless, and play really well together. Looking forward to competing for the region championship.”
The Lady Redhounds will now switch their focus to Wednesday’s matchup with South Laurel.
The two teams have met twice with Corbin winning both games, a 4-3 PK Shootout on Sept. 15, and a 2-1 victory that saw Gibson connect with the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining in regulation during last week’s 49th District Girls’ Tournament title game.
