The Corbin Redhounds are 13th Region champions once again.
The Redhounds (16-6-1) survived a stern test from North Laurel during Thursday’s 13th Region Boys’ Tournament championship, and defeated the Jaguars, 4-2.
The two-goal win marked the second consecutive season Corbin has been crowned 13th Region champions and the fifth time in the past six years.
The Redhounds are now winners of seven straight games, and have defeated North Laurel (11-9-2) three times this season.
Corbin will now face-off against 14th Region champion Perry Central during first round action of the Boys’ Soccer State Tournament. Due to a higher RPI rating, the Redhounds will host the Commodores either Oct. 17th or Oct. 18th. The date and time will be announced at a later time.
The two teams played on Aug. 23 at Corbin with the Redhounds coming away with a 4-0 win.
Corbin took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Colby Johnson seven minutes into the match.
The Redhounds’ lead grew to 2-0 at halftime after a goal by Aden Cima.
North Laurel rallied in the second half and tied the match at two apiece at the 50-minute mark after goals by Ethan Miller and Aidan Steely.
Corbin took control of the match for good eight minutes later as Gabe Cima’s goal gave his team a 3-2 advantage while a goal by Sheel Patel with eight minutes remaining wrapped up the Redhounds’ two-goal win.
