ORANGE & BLACK DOMINATION: Williamsburg hands Pineville first loss while running district win streak to 24 games

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Case in point — the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets.

They might graduate a ton of talent each season but they also reload.

Many thought Williamsburg’s district reign had a chance to come to end against unbeaten Pineville on Friday but the Yellow Jackets had other plans.

Williamsburg struck for 28 points in the first quarter and never looking back during their 42-0 blowout win over the Mountain Lions.

The win locked up the Yellow Jackets’ 24th straight district win while securing another district title in the process. Williamsburg is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 against district foe with district for Lynn Camp left to play.

Pineville (7-1 overall, 1-1 vs. district opponents) entered the game allowing only 60 points this season, the Yellow Jackets had scored 36 points by the time halftime had rolled around.

The Mountain Lions didn’t have an answer for Williamsburg senior quarterback Sydney Bowen.

Bowen threw for three touchdowns in the first half, and ran for two more while finishing the game with six touchdowns.

Williamsburg struck first behind the running ability of Bowden. He scored on the game’s first offensive play, following his blockers and racing 59 yards to give his team a 6-0 edge. He added the two-point conversion to push the Yellow Jackets’ advantage to 8-0 with 11:35 left in the first quarter.

Bowen continued to do damage running the ball after Williamsburg’s defense forced Pineville to punt.

The Yellow Jackets marched down field and took a 14-0 lead at the 7:50 mark of the first quarter thanks to a one-yard touchdown run by Bowden.

Williamsburg’s dominance continues on its third offensive drive but this time through the air.

Bowen threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cade Hatcher, pushing the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 21-0 at the 4:40 mark of the first quarter.

Jerry Herron’s squad continued to fire on all cylinders in the second quarter as Bowen hooked up with Nate Goodin for a 30-yard touchdown connection to give Williamsburg a commanding 28-0 advantage just nine seconds into the second quarter.

Bowen’s third touchdown pass of the game, a 19-yarder to Hunter Thomas allowed the Yellow Jackets to build a 36-0 cushion just 15 minutes into the contest.

Williamsburg continued to dominate in the third quarter with Bowen hitting Goodin in stride with a 69-yard touchdown pass to make the score, 42-0, with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter.
