Just a day removed from being named 13th Region Player of the Year, Corbin’s Grace Gibson showed why she received the honor by leading the Lady Redhounds to three goals during their 5-1 victory over 14th Region champion Estill County in Monday’s first round action of the KHSAA Girls’ Soccer Tournament.
Corbin has now reeled off five consecutive wins and now advances to Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup against West Jessamine, who defeated Prestonsburg, 4-0.
The good news is the Lady Redhounds will host the Elite Eight matchup. A time for the game hasn’t been released yet.
It took a while for Corbin to heat up against the Lady Engineers but once they did, they were hard to stop.
Gibson scored two goals in the first half, including one right before the end of the first half to give Corbin a 2-0 edge.
Estill County cut its deficit to 2-1 eight minutes into the second half before seeing a goal by Gibson, and two goals by Riley Childress wrap-up the four-goal win.
