David Halcomb’s Whitley County Lady Colonels are the new 13th Region champions, putting an end to Corbin’s five-year reign.
The Lady Colonels dug themselves a hole by losing the first set, 25-22, before rallying to win the final three sets, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-23.
It’s Whitley County’s first regional championship since capturing the title in 2016.
The Lady Colonels (24-14) ran their record to 3-1 against the Lady Redhounds (21-11) while improving to 15-2 against regional opponents.
Corbin saw its 17-game regional tournament win streak come to an end with the loss.
Whitley County will be back in action during first round play of the State Tournament on Monday, Oct. 31 against 14th Region champion Wolfe County.
The Lady Wolves (22-11) will host the match. They also captured the 14th Region All ‘A’ Classic earlier this season.
Wolfe County’s RPI currently is sitting at .58256 compared to the Lady Colonels’ .54847 entering today’s match against Corbin.
