Whitley County coach David Halcomb: “Extraordinary night for Whitley County fans and our volleyball program.”

Whitley County coach David Halcomb was more than excited after seeing his Lady Colonels capture their first 13th Region championship since 2016.

The four-set win over five-time defending champion Corbin gave the Lady Colonels their third victory over their 50th District rivals.

Each Whitley County win came in a championship match — the Kentucky 2A Sectional finals, the 50th District finals, and the 13th Region championship.

“Extraordinary night for Whitley County fans and our volleyball program,” Halcomb said. “I can’t say enough about our girls— just the heart and determination they displayed tonight was phenomenal

“To drop a close first set, then bounce right back and dig in the way we did — tremendous,” he added. “Then to be down 18-11 in the fourth set and battle back. I kept telling my girls in timeouts to keep chipping away, one point at a time, and the momentum turned in our favor. We played solid volleyball down the stretch and just refused to lose. “I’ve said all year that I love these girls and this team,” he continued. “They are a special group and it’s a blessing to see them full of so much joy after leaving it all out on the floor!  Our fans were unbelievable — Colonel Nation took over Corbin’s gym and our girls didn’t disappoint.”
