1. Corbin (10-0)
The Redhounds finished unbeaten for the second consecutive regular season and have now won 26 regular season games in a row.
Just him impressive has Corbin been? The Redhounds’ defense hasn’t allowed a single point in four games, that’s 16 consecutive quarters, and let’s not forget they’re outscored their opponents, 191-0, during the four-game stretch.
Who’s next? Corbin will host No. 9 Harlan County (4-6) during first round action of the Class 4A playoffs.
2. Bell County (8-2)
Just how impressive have the Bobcats been this season?
They’ve got a good shot at making a run for the Class 3A title while Daniel Thomas has established himself as one of the best players in the state.
Some big schools at the next level need to start signifying their attention to Thomas — the kid can play on both sides of the ball.
Who’s next? The Bobcats will host Powell County (3-7) in first round action of the Class 3A playoffs.
3. North Laurel (5-5)
It’s been a rough week for the Jaguars. A forfeit loss to South Laurel, and then they saw their 28-14 second half lead against Wayne County turn into a 31-28 loss.
North Laurel will try to get back on track this week but really needs to get things back on track on both sides of the ball.
Who’s next? The Jaguars will hit the road and play Collins (6-4) in first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
4. Williamsburg (7-2)
Jerry Herron is one of the best coaches in the state, hands down. Every season the critics predict the Yellow Jackets’ doom, and guess what? Williamsburg keeps winning.
It doesn’t matter how much talent the Yellow Jackets graduate, they find a way to win. That’s a product of a great coach, coaching staff, players, and feeder program.
Who’s next? The Yellow Jackets get a bye this week but will host the winner of Hazard and Pineville during second round action of the Class A playoffs.
5. Clay County (7-3)
The Tigers are cruising.
They’ve showed they possess one of the best offenses in the state, and have seven wins to prove it.
Coach Michael Sizemore has done a fantastic job in Manchester, and the future continues to be bright, too.
Who’s next? Clay County’s will travel to play Wayne County (6-4) during first round action of the Class 4A playoffs.
6. Middlesboro (7-2)
The Yellow Jackets have been really quiet this season but guess what? They continue to win.
As long as quarterback Cayden Grigsby remains healthy, Middlesboro has a chance to win.
Who’s next? Prestonsburg (8-2) pats a visit Friday during first round action of the Class 2A playoffs.
7. Harlan (7-3)
The Green Dragons took one in the chin last week in a heartbreaking loss to Leslie County.
Who’s next? Harlan will attempt to get back on track Friday by hosting Sayre during first round action of the Class A playoffs.
8. Knox Central (5-5)
The Panthers’ season has went another direction after injuries and the loss of Gavin Chadwell. Steven Partin and KT Turner continue to shine along with a host of their teammates but it’s been a tough last half of the season for Knox Central.
Who’s next? The Panthers will make the long trek to Letcher Central (7-3) to face-off in first round action of the Class 4A playoffs.
9. Harlan County (4-6)
The Black Bears hung tough with Bell County last week before running out of gas.
Who’s next? Harlan County will travel to play No. 1 Corbin during first round action of the Class 4A playoffs.
10. Pineville (7-3)
The Mountain Lions are now losers of three straight, and all three are playoff teams they lost to.
Who’s next? The Mountain Lions will travel to play Hazard during first round action of the Class A playoffs.
