HEARTBREAKER: Late-game trickery leads to heartbreaking 14-6 loss in state semis

Corbin’s eighth grade state championship run came to an end on Saturday, losing to Lawrence County, 14-6, in the Eighth Grade Division 2 State Semifinals.

The game looked as if it were going into overtime but Lawrence County scored on a 50-yard hook and ladder play with 11 seconds remaining to score the game-winning touchdown.

Corbin led 6-0 for three quarters until the Bulldogs rallied and scored 14 unanswered points.

Clay Akins’ 38-yard touchdown run gave the Redhounds a 6-0 lead with 3:22 left in the third quarter.

Corbin held the lead until Lawrence County scored on a 34-yard touchdown run to tie the contest at six apiece with 7:53 remaining in regulation.

The Bulldogs secured the win with a 50-yard hook and ladder play that resulted in a touchdown with 11 seconds remaining.
