1. Corbin (11-0)
The Redhounds cruised to another easy win while recording their fifth straight shut out during the process.
Folks, no matter how you slice it, that’s impressive — meaning a team hasn’t scored a single point against Corbin’s defense in 20 quarters or let’s go even further, more than 240 minutes.
Who’s next? Letcher Central comes rolling into Campbell Field Friday while brining an offensive attack that has rarely been slowed down this season. The Cougars have scored at least 60-plus points once, 50-plus points three times and 40-plus points four times this season. They’re averaging 43.1 points per game.
2. Bell County (9-2)
Can anyone in Class 4A slow down Daniel Thomas. He continues to be a scoring machine for the Bobcats. Thomas added three more touchdowns this past week and leads the state in rushing yards and points scored.
Who’s next? Fleming County (7-4) pays a visit to Log Mountain Friday which should be another winnable game for Bell County.
3. North Laurel (6-5)
The Jaguars shocked everyone, including me during their 42-28 win over Collins last week. It marks only the second-ever road playoff win for North Laurel.
We need to start giving tailback Ethan Gregory some props on the big game he had for the Jaguars.
He’s consistently rolling up close to 100 yards rushing a game. Gregory had 141 rushing yards and two crucial touchdowns against the Titans.
Who’s next? North Laurel will travel to play unbeaten Southwestern (11-0) Friday with hopes of pulling off the upset. The two teams met earlier in the season with the Warriors winning, 27-13.
4. Williamsburg (7-2)
The Yellow Jackets had the luxury to heal any injuries last week due to a bye.
Who’s next? Williamsburg will host Hazard (7-4) Saturday but will be underdogs if you go by the RPI.
The Yellow Jackets will be ready, though. They’ve won five straight games after starting the season with a 3-2 mark.
5. Middlesboro (8-3)
The Yellow Jackets sting Prestonsburg early and never looked back during their 42-30 win over the Black Cats.
Cayden Grigsby has been dominant of late, and it wasn’t any different last Friday.
He completed 17-of-21 pass attempts for 284 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 58 yards and a score.
Who’s next? Middlesboro will hit the road and face-off against a Shelby (9-2) that has won seven in a row.
6. Harlan (8-3)
The Green Dragons turned in a dominating effort during last week’s 42-7 win over Sayre.
Jayden Ward continues to dominate, wracking up 216 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Who’s next? Now Harlan will face a tough task in the road against Class A’s top-ranked team, Pikeville (8-2).
7. Clay County (7-4)
The Tigers saw their season come to an end with a disappointing road loss to Wayne County.
8. Harlan County (5-6)
The Black Bears’ season came to an end after falling to Corbin last week.
9. Knox Central (5-6)
The Panthers’ season came to an end after falling to Letcher Central last week.
10. Pineville (7-4)
The Mountain Lions’ season came to an end after falling to Hazard last week.
