It seems as if we are stuck on going 8-2 each week with our pick’ems. That’s exactly what we finished last week, and now we are 97-21 overall, which is good enough for a winning percentage of .822.
So let’s see what we can pull off this week during second round action of the KHSAA playoffs.
Friday, November 11
Class A
Second round
Hazard (7-4) at Williamsburg (7-2)
The Yellow Jackets have had a week off thanks to a bye while Hazard is coming off a win over Pineville.
History wise, the Bulldogs lead the overall series, 9-6 while Williamsburg has won three out of the past four meetings.
Who wins? If it rains like it is supposed to then it definitely gonna play a big factor in this game. We are gonna go with Hazard in a 26-14 win.
Harlan (8-3) at Pikeville (8-2)
The Green Dragons will enter the game as underdogs but they’ve proven throughout the season they can’t be taken lightly.
The defending state champion Panthers are 103-37 in postseason play while winning six playoff games in a row.
Harlan is 15-28 against playoff opposition and 2-13 all/time against Pikeville.
Who wins? The Panther come away with a 40-20 victory.
Class 2A
Middlesboro (8-2) at Shelby Valley (9-2)
The Yellow Jackets are 43-35 in postseason play while the Wildcats are 10-23.
Middlesboro is 3-2 against Shelby Valley with the Wildcats winning the past two meetings in 2015 (56-13), and 2018 (42-0).
Who wins? This is going to be a close win but we are expecting Shelby Valley to pull out a 28-21 win.
Class 3A
Fleming County (7-4) at Bell County (9-2)
The Bobcats are heavy favorites in this matchup and should win with ease.
Bell County, who will be playing in its 100th playoff game, holds a 69-32 record overall while the Panthers are 15-27.
The two teams have played each other only one time with the Bobcats coming away with a 48-12 win in 2019.
Who wins? We’re going with Bell County, 42-13.
Class 4A
Letcher Central (8-3) at Corbin (11-0)
A lot of folks believe this kid be a trap game for Corbin but we don’t.
The Redhounds are 80-42 all time in postseason play compared to the Cougars’ 8-13 mark.
This will mark the first time the two teams have played each other.
Who wins? Something has to give. Corbin hasn’t allowed a team score a point in five games while Letcher Central is averaging 43.1 points per game.
Look for the Redhounds to roll 42-6.
Class 5A
North Laurel (6-5) at Southwestern (11-0)
These two teams met earlier in the season with the Warriors coming away with a 27-13 win.
The Jaguars are 6-15 in postseason play while the Warriors are 27-24.
The two teams have met three times in the playoffs with Southwestern winning twice. Overall, the Warriors are 9-4 against the Jaguars.
Who wins? Southwestern advances with a 34-19 victory.
