North Laurel’s season came to an end after seeing Southwestern score three touchdowns during the second quarter of Friday’s second round action of the Class 5A playoffs.
The Jaguars finished the season with a 6-6 mark after dropping a 35-7 decision to the Warriors.
Southwestern outgained North Laurel in total yardage, 355-133, with 270 yards coming on the ground.
Both teams had a defensive battle in the first quarter before Southwestern took a 7-0 lead behind a one-yard touchdown run by Christian Walden with 7:56 left in the first half.
Walden’s touchdown woke up the Warriors offense and defense.
Braxton Walter scored on a 21-yard run while the ensuing squib kick led to Southwestern recovering. Tanner Wright followed with a two-yard touchdown run, giving the Warriors a 21-0 lead at halftime.
Southwestern outgained North Laurel, 179-11, in total yardage during the first half.
Wright’s second touchdown of the game, a three-yarder with 3:24 left in the third quarter pushed his team’s advantage to 28-0.
Tucker Warren’s 19-yard touchdown pass cut North Laurel’s deficit to 28-7 with 8:46 left in the fourth quarter but the damage had already been done.
