1. Corbin (13-0)
The Redhounds are region champs, and they are now sitting perfect with a 13-0 record.
Corbin did all it needed to do to knock off Johnson Central while ending a two-year losing skid to the Golden Eagles.
Corbin’s shutout streak has ended but the Redhounds put 35 points on a Johnson Central defense which had been stellar.
Who’s next? Franklin Simpson is next with a Class 4A state title appearance on the line. The two teams met earlier this season at Franklin County with Corbin coming away with a 40-20 win.
2. Bell County (10-3)
The Bobcats turned in an impressive season but fell to Ashland last week, 34-16.
Bell County dodged no one and picked up some big wins this season.
Tailback Danial Thomas put together one of the best seasons we’ve seen in a while, and could very well end up being named 13th Region Player of the Year.
3. North Laurel (6-6)
The Jaguars had high expectations entering the season but just can’t get over the hump against Southwestern and Pulaski County.
They are now 4-10 all-time against the Warriors and have lost four consecutive games against them while dropping 11 games in a row against Pulaski County.
Until they find a way to beat those two teams, it’s gonna be hard to A. Win the district, and B. Host a home playoff game.
4. Williamsburg (7-3)
The Yellow Jackets picked the worst time to be shutout for the first time in 88 games.
Williamsburg could get anything going during its 29-0 loss at home against Hazard.
Jerry Herron’s squad had a good season, winning its seventh consecutive district title but we were expecting another trip to the region finals.
5. Middlesboro (8-3)
The Yellow Jackets’ run to repeat as region champions came to an end after a 28-21 heartbreaker to Shelby Valley last Friday.
Middlesboro had a heck of a season behind the play of quarterback Cayden Grisgby and wide out Kameron Wilson, just to name a few.
6. Harlan (8-4)
The Greed Dragons ran into a Pikeville team that will more than likely repeat as state champions. Harlan held its own but just couldn’t pull off the upset win,
The loss doesn’t take away from an impressive season Harlan had.
7. Clay County (7-4)
The Tigers were fun to watch this past season. Their offensive attack was one of the best in the 13th Region, and mountains.
Tate Rice showed that’s he’s also one of the best signal callers around as well.
8. Harlan County (4-7)
The Black Bears had some big wins this season but just could catch fire when they needed, too.
Their players gave 110 percent effort and turned in a solid season.
9. Knox Central (5-6)
Injuries hurt Knox Central this season. The Panthers started the season strong but was just outmanned by the time the end of the season ended.
Coach Buckner and his players fought hard while Knox Central possessed one of the best players in the state in Steven Partin.
10. Pineville (7-4)
Coach Allen Harris’ first season as Mountain Lion head coach was a success. Pineville win its first seven games and was ranked as high as No. 4 at one point of the season.
