THREE DAYS AWAY: Greer’s Redhounds prep for Friday’s Class 4A State title game

We’re just three days away from the Class 4A statue championship game in Friday Corbin will attempt to defeat reigning champion Boyle County.

The L4 Security 13th Region Media Network was able sit down and take some football with Corbin coach Tom Greer.

Players’ efforts throughout the season

“There are 15 steps in a season, and we are taking it a step at a time. My hat’s off to our players, they have given a tremendous effort this season. We’ve also got a great senior class that has got things done, and has been leading the football team.

“Every week they are focused on the details, and focused on what we need to do, and they’ve performed very well.”

Social Media

“You don’t win any football games by getting on social media, and this or that. Our guys are very mature, and we really just stay focus on what we’ve got to really do. We get the opportunity to take step 15, and the only thing we are guaranteed four quarters, and 48 minutes, and nothing else.

“As a coaching staff, we don’t get on social media. They got that Kentucky Prep or whatever it is, and they don’t even use their names but they get on their and Knox more than anybody. That stuff, to be honest with you, will waste a lot of your time.”

Corbin community

“We are very blessed with an unbelievable community. People, they love, the Corbin Redhounds, they love Corbin athletics. We talk about it every Friday night before we go on to the field, we are playing more than just for ourselves, we are playing for the community and we are playing for our high school, and we are playing for our parent. We’ve told our kids to play hard, to give it everything you got.”

Getting ready for game time

“Here is the thing, 15 weeks into the season, they are no secrets. There is not any Corbin side or Boyle County’s side. You do what. You’ve got to go out and defend blocks and defeat blocks.

Boyle County has won it the past two years, and they’ve got a great football program. Justin does a great job. This is gonna come down to the Boyle County Rebels, and the Corbin Redhounds.”
