Maddy Hopkins’ 12 points help guide Williamsburg past Middlesboro, 50-42

The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a win in their season opener versus Middlesboro on Tuesday.

Williamsburg used a balanced attack against Middlesboro to come away with the 50-42 win. Maddy Hopkins led Williamsburg with 12 points, followed by Abby Moses with 10. Lorelei Coleman scored nine and Allie Wilson added eight.

Williamsburg’s offense continued to struggle in the third quarter. Moses and Presley Spicer each scored a bucket apiece for Williamsburg in the third, but Middlesboro was able to cut into the big lead, trailing 38-24 heading into the fourth.

Middlesboro’s offense had their best run of the night in the fourth quarter. Keevi Betts scored eight of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter. Middlesboro was able to cut the lead to single digits, but Williamsburg was able to hold on to the 50-42 win.
