Slow start doesn’t keep Bell County from picking up 20-point win

Bell County remained unbeaten after going on the road to knock off Russell County, 66-46.

The Lady Bobcats (2-0) overcame a slow start but still managed to roll to an easy 21-point win.

Maya Ausmus scored 17 points in the win while Lauren McGeorge added 15 points.

Gracie Jo Wilder led Bell County with an 18-point scoring effort, finishing with 18 points.

“We got off to a sluggish start but I thought our energy got better in the second half, especially on the defensive side of the ball. That gave us the opportunity to get out in transition some,” Bell County coach David Teague said. “We had some kids step up and make some shots when we needed it. Our scoring was balanced as we had 3 in double figures and had several other players do some good things and give some great minutes.”

Teague’s squad led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter as Wilder scored five points, and Ausmus added three points.

Wilder and McGeorge both scored seven points apiece while the Lady Bobcats’ lead grew to 28-22 at halftime.

Bell County began to pull away in the third quarter as Ausmus scored seven points while hitting a 3-pointer, and Wilder added five points, pushing their team’s lead to 48-32 entering the fourth quarter.

Ausmus added six points in the fourth quarter while Kairi Lamb added four points allowing the Lady Bobcats to seal the 20-point victory.
