Emily Cox pours in 27-point scoring effort during South Laurel’s 74-63 loss to Dixie Heights

South Laurel senior Emily Cox continued her impressive season, scoring 27 points in a 74-63 losing cause against Dixie Heights

Dixie Heights scored 26 points in the first quarter to take a 26–17 lead and never looked back.

“Once again we are playing really hard,” South Laurel coach Chris Souder said. “Emily led us again with 27 just needs some consistent help. I really like my team and we will continue to work and get better. It was a great environment and great experience for our girls. Several college coaches were in attendance as well.”

The Lady Cardinals (1-2) cut their deficit to 41-34 at halftime thanks to Cox’s eight points, and Skeeter Mabe’s four points. Mabe finished the game with 11 points.

Dixie Heights began to pull away in the second half, outscoring South Laurel 33-29 the remainder of the game.

Jaylen Smith added seven points for South Laurel while Shelbie Mills scored six points.
