North Laurel fell to 1-1 on the season but the Lady Jaguars showed they can hang with the state’s best teams during their 73-60 loss to DuPont Manual on Monday.
Chloe McKnight turned in a 23-point scoring effort to lead North Laurel while Emily Sizemore finished with 17 points, and Brooke Nichelson added 10 points.
“DuPont Manual is one of top two or three teams in the state and probably has the quickest guards,” North Laurel coach Eddie Mahan said. “The way they play is unique in girls basketball. Against a team like that mistakes turn into quick points for them and we had too many mistakes. It’s challenges like this though that I believe will make us so much better by the end of the year.
“The play by our senior leader Emily Sizemore is exactly what you expect from her,” he added. “No matter if we needed a basket, a rebound or her to create for someone else she seemed to come through for us in our time of need. It’s great to have that to depend on.
“Chloe McKnight had another great night and showed her improvement with us in the preseason,” Mahan continued. “Having the best post in the region will be what we need to consistently have for us to reach our goals.”
