Knox Central sophomore Halle Collins scored 21 of her game-high 36 points during the second half, as the Lady Panthers fought back from a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Owsley County Thursday, 71-69.
Collins turned in her best effort of the young season by also recording 17 rebounds while finishing with five assists, and five steals.
Teammates Reagan Jones, and Timberly Frederick scored nine points apiece in the win while Emily Mills finished with six points.
Collins scored eight points in the first quarter while Frederick hit a 3-pointer to allow Knox Central (3-0) to keep pace with the Lady Owls.
The game was tied at 19 apiece heading into the second quarter as Owsley County outscored the Lady Panthers, 24-14, to build a 43-33 halftime lead.
The Lady Owls’ lead grew to 16 points in the third quarter before seeing Knox Central begin to rally.
An 11-point output by Collins combined with a 3-pointer by Jones allowed the Lady Panthers to cut their deficit to 57-47 entering the fourth quarter.
Collins dominated in the final eight minutes, scoring 10 points, while Frederick hit two key 3-pointers, allowing Knox Central to outscore Owsley County, 24-12, to get the win.
