Third quarter woes lead to Barbourville’s 64-55 loss to Rockcastle County

Barbourville looked to be heading to its third win of the season but then came the third quarter of Friday’s matchup with Rockcastle County.

The Tigers held a 33-26 halftime lead only to see the Rockets use a 22-5 run during the third quarter to eventually prevail with a 64-55 win over the Tigers.

Chris Taylor’s squad’s record fell to 2-2 with the loss despite seeing Matt Warren hit four 3-pointers while dishing out a 26-point scoring effort.

Ethan Smith scored eight of his 12 points in the fourth quarter while Travis Scott finished with a 3-pointer and eight points.

Barbourville led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, and 33-26 entering halftime before Rockcastle County took control of the game and led 48-38 with eight minutes remaining.

Eight points by Smith combined with two 3-pointers by Warren in the fourth quarter weren’t enough to get the Tigers back into the game.

Barbourville will be back in action Monday at Clay County.
