Harlan Carpet Mart Girls’ 13th Region Week One Top 10: Defending region champs at No. 1 while North Laurel comes in at No. 2

1. Corbin (3-0)

The Lady Redhounds are already good but the addition of Kylie Clem makes them even better. This team has all of the tools to repeat as region champions. They showed what they could do by winning the WYMT Mountain Classic against No. 2 North Laurel.

2. North Laurel (2-2)

The Lady Jaguars might be 2-2 but look who their losses were against. Coach Eddie Mahan’s squad is dangerous and to only lose by one point to Corbin this early in the season is a big plus for North Laurel.

This team is only going to get better as the season progresses which means we could have a great rivalry brewing with these two teams.

3. Knox Central (5-0)

All of the talk during the preseason was about Corbin, North Laurel, and Bell County, and deservedly so.

But now you’ve got to throw Knox Central into the equation after their impressive start that including a big win over No. 4 Bell County.

Halle Collins is playing like she is on a mission while Timberly Frederick, Emily Mills, Reagan Jones, Jaylynn Fain and the remainder of the Lady Panthers have played fantastic so far.

4. Bell County (3-1)

The Lady Bobcats suffered a setback after falling to No. 3 Knox Central last week. Gracie Jo Wilder continues to show she’s one of the best players in the region.

5. Jackson County (4-1)

The Lady Generals had a chance to move up in the rankings but fell to Corbin in the WYMT Mountain Classic. This team is dangerous, especially possessing the one-two punch of Abby Gilbert, and Kenady Ward.

6. South Laurel (3-2)

The Lady Cardinals have been a surprise the past week, picking up huge wins over Southwestern, and Pulaski County.

Emily Cox continues to dominate on the boards, and scoring for South Laurel while the young nucleus of talent is beginning to take shape.

Let’s coach Chris Souders do what he does best, and by the time January or February rolls around, this team will be dangerous.

7. Harlan County (5-1)

The play of Ella Karst has been outstanding. The Lady Black Bears continue to improve, and once they start to click, this team can make noise, too.

8. Harlan (1-2)

The Lady Green Dragons have struggled out of the gates but that doesn’t mean they’re a pushover by no means. We believe Harlan has a good chance to surprise a lot of teams in the region this season.

9. Pineville (4-1)

Don’t look now but the Lady Mountain Lions are red hot. Nadine Johnson has made a huge difference for Pineville this season. Abby Jackson has always played well, too.

10. Clay County (2-2)

Keep an eye on the Lady Tigers, they’re better than many people thought  they would be. We expect them to move on up in the rankings this season.
