Fresh off of winning the program’s first-ever WYMT Mountain Classic, Derrick Akal’s Harlan Green Dragons gave notice to the 13th Region once again that they are for real by defeating Pikeville, 73-61, on the road Monday.
There was no letdown after winning the WYMT Mountain Classic just two days before.
The Green Dragons (6-0) hung tough throughout, trailing 32-30 at halftime, and 48-46 entering the fourth quarter.
They then exploded for 24 points in the game’s final eight minutes while limiting the Panthers to only 13.
Harlan knocked down for 3-pointers during the fourth quarter as both Kaleb McLendon and Dylan Cox hit two apiece.
Kaleb McLendon led the Green Dragons with 17 points while Kyler McLendon followed with 15 points. Jaedyn Gist turned in 12-point scoring effort along with Will Austin while Cox finished with nine points, and three 3-pointers.
Harlan will be back in action Friday on the road against Middlesboro. The tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
