Here is some food for thought.
Written by someone that is currently bored in Washington, D.C.
We have some very talented high school football teams in the region, and now is time to take advantage of the talent and promote these student-athletes even more.
We’ve got talented teams beginning at the Class A level all the way to Class 5A, so I’ve been thinking, wouldn’t be great if somehow a 13th Region Southeastern Kentucky Conference was started — kind of like the old SEKC back in the day but involve all 13th Region high school football teams.
Just imagine, you could even throw basketball in the mix and have football and basketball and then have an end of the year banquet for players that participate in Class A, Class 2A, Class 3A, Class 4A, and Class 5A.
And then maybe even have our local teams playing each other.
Like I said, I’m not sure how it would work, but it could work, and how great would it be to see teams such as Corbin and Bell County renewing their rivalry, and even Corbin and North Laurel facing each other in a home and away series or even an SEKC Bowl that maybe the L4 Security 13th Region Media Network could host/sponsor?
Instead of these long trips across the state, the Corbins, Bells, and North Laurel’s should be playing each other. Heck, I’m also including Harlan County, Williamsburg, Middlesboro, Clay County, Harlan, Knox Central, Pineville, and any other team in the 13th Region — these teams should be playing each other.
Fans across the 13th Region would love to see these matchups, so why aren’t they happening?
Well, I sorta think I know why some matchups aren’t taking place, but that’s for another day, and another column.
But like I said, who would love to see a Corbin vs. Bell County matchup? What about Corbin vs. North Laurel? Bell County vs. Middlesboro? Williamsburg vs. North Laurel? Corbin vs. Williamsburg? Those are just some the matchups that pop up in my head.
Any coach that would like to have a 13th Region SEKC Bowl game, hit me up and we here at the L4 Security 13th Region Media Network could maybe try and get a four-team, two-game Bowl struck up.
Realignment is gonna take place soon, so what better time than now to get things scheduled.
