Wilder, Ausmus combine to score 44 points during Lady Bobcats’ 56-27 win over South Carolina’s Travelers Rest High School

Bell County wasted little time putting away South Carolina’s Travelers Rest High School during first round action of the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic.

The duo of Gracie Jo Wilder, and Mataya Ausmus combined to score 44 points to lead the Lady Bobcats to a 56-27 first round win.

Wilder finished with 23 points, scoring 21 of those in the first three quarter. Ausmus tallied 21 points while nailing four 3-pointers.

“It was good to be back playing after a few days off for Christmas,” Bell County coach David Teague said. “I thought the girls came out focused and felt like our defensive pressure was good. I felt like we moved the ball well and executed in the half court set well!

“Good to start the tourney 1-0,” he added. “We will go back at it tomorrow against either Morgan County, Kentucky or Sardis, Alabama.”

Bell County led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, and 34-16 at halftime before outscoring it’s opponent, 22-11, during the final 16 minutes.
