Ausmus scores 20 points during Bell County’s semifinal win in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic

Bell County improved its record to a perfect 2-0 during its stay in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic with an impressive 68-35 win over Alabama’s Sardis (Boaz) High School.

Led by a 20-point scoring effort from Mataya Ausmus, who hit four 3-pointers while going 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, the Lady Bobcats (8-2) built a 31-23 first half lead, and never looked back.

Bell County outscored its opponent, 37-12, during the second half.

“I thought we came out a little sluggish but in the second half our energy was very good,” Bell County coach David Teague said. “We played well on both ends of the floor.  I thought our defensive focus got better as the game went along.

“Good to be 2-0 in the tournament to this point,” he added. “We play for the championship of our bracket tomorrow against Father Ryan, Tennessee.”

Gracie Jo Wilder added 18 points while hitting 8-of-10 shot attempts from the free-throw line while Lauren McGeorge finished with 13 points.
