Lady Black Bears use 17-6 fourth quarter run to beat Pineville

An old-fashioned 13th Region battle took place during Thursday’s Chain Rock Classic when Harlan County, and Pineville faced off.

In a game that saw the lead change hands numerous time, the Lady Black Bears managed to pull out the 51-46 win.

Jaylin Smith earned Player of the Game honors after pouring in 20 points, including nine of those coming during the fourth quarter. Ella Karst added 12 points while Tatum Griffin added 10 points.

Harlan County also displayed some solid defense, limiting Lady Mountain Lion leading scorer Nadine Johnson to 13 points under her scoring average. She finished with 10 points.

Rachel Howard added 19 points for Pineville while Ava Arnett scored in double figures with 10 points.

The Lady Mountain Lions led, 23-20, at halftime, and, 40-34, entering the fourth quarter.

Harlan County rallied in the final eight minutes as Smith scored nine points while Karst added six points, and Griffin tossed in two points, allowing the Lady Black Bears to outscore Pineville, 17-6, to get the win.
