After being limited to a season low 19 points during its last contest, Bell County responded in fine fashion during Tuesday’s Kentucky Class 2A Section 7 Tournament by handing Perry Central a 62-54 loss.
“It was a good win for us,” Bell County coach David Teague said. “Perry Central has a very nice team, one of the better teams in the 14th region. I thought our kids battled the entire game, I was proud of our effort.
“It was a game of runs, but we had kids step up and make plays when we needed it,” he added. “I thought we rebounded the ball very well. We will play Friday in the 2A Section 7 championship game against winner of Knox Central and McCreary Central.”
The Lady Bobcats (9-3) built an 18-16 lead in the first quarter behind seven points from Grace Jo Wilder, four points Mataya Ausmus, and three points from Lauren McGeorge.
Bell County led 38-34 at halftime as the Lady Commodores’ Kyra McLarnis kept her team close by scoring eight of her 16 points during the second quarter. Wilder added 12 points during the period for a bell County while Ausmus, and McGeorge added four points apiece.
The Lady Bobcats’ saw their lead trimmed to 50-47 entering the fourth quarter but five points by McGeorge, four points from Ausmus, and a 3-pointer by Wilder allowed Bell County to secure the win.
Wilder led Bell County with 23 points while McGeorge followed with 16 points, and Ausmus added 14 points.
