Whitley County’s Marissa Douglas has been named L4 Security 13th Region Media Network Volleyball Player of the Year Sponsored by Commonwealth Periodontics & Implant Center.
Douglas played a big role in Whitley County’s success this season, leading the Lady Colonels to a 25-15 mark, the 50th District and 13th Region championships, and an Elite Eight finish.
She led Whitley County with 389 kills while totaling 32 blocks, 26 assists, 433 digs, and 65 service aces.
“I’m really excited for Marissa to have been selected as 13th Region Player of the Year,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said earlier this season when Douglas was named 13th Region Kentucky Coaches Association 13th Region Player of the Year. “She is very deserving of this recognition. Marissa has always been a really good outside hitter for us and leads our team in kills on the season. She wasn’t satisfied with other areas of her game at the end of last season and wanted to become a better passer and server, so she went to work to get better, and she has.
“She put the time in during the off-season and has now become one of the most complete players in the 13th Region,” he added. “Besides that, and perhaps most importantly, Marissa is just a really good, humble kid. I’m happy for not only her, but for our team in general.”
