Bell County continued its winning ways after capturing the Kentucky 2A, Section 7 title just last week.
The Lady Bobcats (11-3) won their third game in a row and fifth in the past six games by defeating Clay County Monday, 76-48.
Mataya Ausmus hit five 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 22 points. Gracie Jo Wilder followed with 21 points while Lauren McGeorge added 16 points.
“I thought our defense energy was good early,” Bell County coach David Teague said. “We got a little relaxed at times but I thought overall we played well. I felt like we moved the ball good in our half court offense and we was able to knock down some shots.”
Clay County’s Jaylen Combs did all she could to keep the Lady Tigers (6-9) close, scoring 22 points while knocking down 7-of-10 3-point attempts.
Both Wilder and Ausmus scored nine points apiece in the first quarter while McGeorge added seven points as Bell County built a 26-4 lead.
The Lady Tigers’ Combs hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter, helping cut the Lady Bobcats’ lead to 37-20 at halftime.
Wilder added eight points while McGeorge scored six points to push Bell County’s lead to 55-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Combs scored seven more points in the fourth quarter while nailing two 3-pointers, but Ausmus countered with eight points, and two 3-pointers of her own to allow the Lady Bobcats to pull off the 28-point win.
