Harlan kept its run for a fourth straight 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic Tournament championship alive by outlasting host Barbourville on Monday with a 70-60 decision.
The Green Dragons (14-2) showed why they have been atop the 13th Region rankings the past two weeks by continuing to come up big in clutch situations from behind the arc.
Harlan held a slim 21-18 decision at the end of the first quarter before building a 41-33 decision at halftime. The Green Dragons held a 58-47 advantage entering the fourth quarter before holding on for the 10-point victory.
Derrick Akal’s squad nailed nine 3-pointers in the win. Kyler McLendon led the way with 29 points, and three 3-pointers while Kaleb McLendon followed with 18 points, and five 3-pointers. Jaedyn Gist added 12 of his 16 points in the second half, including a thunderous dunk at the end of the game to cap off the victory.
Barbourville’s Matt Warren scored 21 points, and hit three 3-pointers while Travis Scott added 11 points. Ethan Smith scored nine points while Ty Clark, and Jake Lundy each scored eight points apiece.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 9-6 on the season, and 6-1 against 13th Region opponents.
