Bell County Wrestling Wins Sectional Duals; Qualifies for State Duals

The Bell County Wrestling team traveled to Sectional Duals at Somerset High School on Saturday. The top two teams qualify for state duals. I just hoped we’d make it. Bell County head coach Ovie Canady said “I never dreamed we’d win the whole thing. Our kids surprised me.” We started out wrestling a tough McCreary Central team. That actually proved to be for the championship as McCreary went on to finish 2nd. We beat McCreary in a very exciting dual 45-27. Jordan Muncy, Shelby Collins, Isaiah Troutman, Hayden Canady, Daniel Thomas, Johanan Woodring, Nathan Ramsey and Braydon Thomas all picked up wins in that dual. The highlight was Daniel beating a kid who had defeated him earlier in the year. Daniel won 11-6 in a great battle, very fun to watch. After that we defeated Danville 71-3. Shelby, Jordan, Matt Dowlin, Isaiah, Matthew Howard, Milka Woodring, Madyson Helton, Hayden, Daniel, Nick Borecki, Dalton Simpson and Johnathan Tapp all secured wins in that dual. The highlight had to be Jordan pinning a state medalist and top 4 ranked wrestler in 40 seconds. In the final dual of the day we defeated Somerset 66-18. “We had some hard fought battles in that dual. Jordan, Matt D, Alexis Holman, Isaiah, Matt H, Milka, Hayden, Daniel, Nathan, Dalton and Braydon all had wins in that dual” Canady added.

The highlight of that dual would have to be Hayden and Daniel wrestling up a weight class each and getting pins to seal the deal. Isaiah also had a very nice win in that dual. Winning sectional duals will now allow Bell County to wrestle in state duals in Bardstown Jan 28th.
