With his team clinging to a 55-51 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Harlan County’s Trent Noah showed why he’s considered as one of the top players in the state by hitting a long range 3-pointer to push his team’s lead to seven points en route to the Black Bears’ 68-62 victory over rival Harlan.
The Green Dragons have received most of the fanfare this season, and deservedly so after beating some of the best teams in the mountains while jumping out to a 19-2 mark.
But now Harlan has lost two of its last three games while Harlan County is 12-1 during its past 13 contests.
Noah came up huge, scoring 31 points while Jonah Swanner scored 14 points, and Maddox Huff added 11 points.
The win improved the Black Bears to 19-4 overall, and 4-0 against 52nd District competition while the Green Dragons fell to 20-4, and 4-1.
Kyler McLendon led Harlan with 22 points while Will Austin totaled 19 points, and Jae’dyn Gist followed with 17 points.
The Green Dragons led 17-15 at the end of the first quarter before falling behind, 37-29, at halftime. Harlan County took a 48-39 advantage into the fourth quarter.
