Karst scores 24 while Smith records 500th career rebound during Harlan County’s 55-50 win over Letcher Central 

Ella Karst continues to show she’s one of the best players in the 13th Region after scoring 24 points while going a perfect 9-of-9 at the charity stripe during the Harlan County Lady Black Bears’ 55-50 win over Letcher Central on Friday.

Harlan County (17-6) led throughout the contest but had to hold off a late rally from the Lady Cougars to get the win.

Seven points by Karst, and six points by Jaylin Smith, who recorded her 500th career rebound in the win, gave the Lady Black Bears a 16-14 lead in the first quarter.

Karst added five points in the second quarter while Taytum Griffin, Hailey Austin, and Kylie Jones each nailed a 3-pointer apiece to give Harlan County a 30-24 advantage at halftime. 

Karst added eight points while Austin scored four points to push the Lady Black Bears’ lead to 46-33 entering the fourth quarter.
