Bell County’s Mataya Ausmus came up big when her teammates needed her most during Saturday’s 57-43 win over Leslie County.
Ausmus scored five points down the stretch in the fourth quarter to help Bell County pull away. She finished the game with 19 points, and four 3-pointers while hitting 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
“I liked our focus to start the game,” Bell County coach David Teague said. “I thought we were very good defensively. I had been on our team to come with more energy and to be aggressive. I thought they responded well today.
“Good win for our basketball team,” he added. “Leslie is probably the top team in the 14th and I thought our kids battled the entire game.”
The Lady Bobcats came out red-hot, taking a 21-2 advantage into the second quarter before leading 34-11 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles attempted to rally but the play by Ausmus and her teammates led to Bell County’s 14-point victory.
Lauren McGeorge finished with 18 points while Gracie Jo Wilder added 14 points.
