This season has seen more than its share of tough losses. However, this latest loss may have been the toughest. Not because Georgia is the worst team they have faced only to go down in defeat, although this game was beyond winnable. No, this one hurts because this may have been the final nail in the coffin.
By coffin of course I’m referring to a tournament bid. Yes, there are still games to be played. Yes, it’s true, the season is not sealed just yet. Yes, there s still a conference tournament yet to be played with an automatic bid involved.
All this is true, however, it’s time we all face the harsh reality that the Wildcats may not be taking part in the madness of March. A crazy thought considering the expectations coming into the season. Sadly for the big blue nation, that thought just may come to fruition.
That being said, sports is a crazy thing. Kentucky may embark on an unforeseen hot streak, unlike anything we have seen in years. Perhaps in the next week or two I am writing and breaking down how those hopes can still become a reality. However, I fear that may not come to be.
It may be time to face the possibility that this team just can’t get the job done. There are numerous reasons for this. Reasons that have been gone over to no end. All the same, it is disappointing to see a season with so much promise coming into, simply go by the wayside. For now, it looks like barring a miracle we are looking at a very long off-season for Kentucky Wildcat basketball.
